New Podcast “What Makes a Good Day?” Asks an Old Question in a New Way: How Should We Spend Our Time?
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Re-Nourish, the long-running sustainable design education platform, has launched a new podcast, What Makes a Good Day?, hosted by designer and educator Eric Benson. The show is now available at www.re-nourish.org/podcast.
Each episode takes on a question that predates the podcast format by roughly 2,500 years: what is the good life, and what does it ask of us today? Benson brings the same inquiry Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius wrestled with into conversation with guests working in design, education, and philosophy, asking how they measure their time and what they believe their work and their days are for.
The premise draws on Stoic philosophy, in particular the idea that a good life is built from an accumulation of good days, each shaped less by grand achievement than by how carefully a person tends to their own attention and choices. Philosopher William B. Irvine has compared these moments of genuine delight to raisins in a pudding: rare, brief, and worth arranging a life around.
“Most of us spend our days reacting instead of choosing,” said Benson. “This podcast is a chance to slow that down and ask what we’re actually working toward, and whether it matches what we say we value.”
Guests on the show have included Veena Harbaugh, Steven McCarthy, Mary Clavieres, Shivam Patel, and Elizabeth Azide, each bringing a different lens to the central question of how time, attention, and purpose intersect in daily life.
New episodes of What Makes a Good Day? are released regularly and are available at www.re-nourish.org/podcast and on major podcast platforms.
About Re-nourish
Re-nourish provides online tools advocating awareness & action for life-centered systems thinking in the communication design community. At the moment, we are just two people who want to improve things. We believe ‘good design’ values people, the environment, and improves lives. Instead, design is currently on an unsustainable path centered on overconsumption, waste, and ignoring the natural systems around us. Re-nourish aims to help the practicing communication designer, educator, and student make positive, greener, and pragmatic design decisions. Our tools and resources are created to be straightforward and implementable now.
