Movie Meltdown Joins Weirding Way Media
Movie Meltdown, the Louisville-based film podcast created and hosted by Bryan Renfro, has joined Weirding Way Media, the independent podcast network founded by Mike White and Chris Stachiw.
Launched in 2008, Movie Meltdown is one of the longest-running independent film podcasts still in production. Across more than 660 numbered episodes, Renfro and a rotating company of contributors have combined wide-ranging movie conversations with actor and filmmaker interviews, convention coverage, soundtrack programs, horror discussions, holiday gatherings, and the show’s signature excursions into the stranger corners of popular culture.
“Bryan has created something that can’t be manufactured: a genuine community with nearly two decades of shared history,” said Weirding Way Media co-founder Mike White. “Movie Meltdown has always treated film culture as something people live—not simply something they review. That sensibility makes it a natural part of Weirding Way Media.”
Movie Meltdown’s extensive guest archive includes actors, filmmakers, comedians, musicians, and film preservationists such as Brad Dourif, Margaret Cho, Doug Jones, Danielle Harris, Sean Gunn, Vernon Wells, Sid Haig, Beverly Washburn, Mick Garris, Nicholas Meyer, Joe Alves, Ani Simon-Kennedy, Bert Kreischer, Jimmy Pardo, Lisa Loeb, John Doe, Kyle Gass, and Rachel Grimes.
The podcast has also developed several recurring programs and traditions, including Sofa Theater, Attack of the Killer Soundtrack, convention reports from events such as WonderFest and the Lexington Comic & Toy Convention, and the Patreon-supported Meltdown Horror Club. Movie Meltdown has received five Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Award nominations for Best Podcast.
“I’ve known Mike and Chris for years, and Weirding Way Media already feels like the kind of neighborhood where Movie Meltdown belongs,” Renfro said. “It’s filled with people who will spend two hours talking about an overlooked movie, an obscure television episode, a soundtrack album, or something strange they found at a convention—and nobody has to apologize for caring too much.”
The addition of Movie Meltdown expands Weirding Way Media’s growing catalog of independent film, television, horror, and popular-culture programming. The network’s lineup includes The Projection Booth, The Kulturecast, 80s TV Ladies, The Feminine Critique, The Shabby Detective, Midnight Viewing, Dreams for Sale, The Life & Times of Captain Barney Miller, Deep Dive Film Talk, and other original, seasonal, and limited-series productions.
“Movie Meltdown represents exactly what we wanted Weirding Way Media to support,” said co-founder Chris Stachiw. “It is independent, personal, unpredictable, and built by someone with a distinct voice. Bryan has assembled an extraordinary archive of conversations, interviews, and movie-geek history, and we’re proud to help introduce that work to more listeners.”
Movie Meltdown will retain its title, format, host, and established identity while benefiting from Weirding Way Media’s shared promotional resources, cross-network collaborations, and growing distribution presence. Its existing archive will remain available through the show’s current podcast feed.
Listeners can expect new Movie Meltdown episodes, additional installments of the Meltdown Horror Club, and appearances by Renfro and other Movie Meltdown contributors across Weirding Way Media programming.
